Direct Install is a new program for small and mid-sized businesses available to any commercial, industrial or local government building in New Jersey with a peak electric demand of 200 kilowatts or less that is served by one of the State’s seven regulated electric or gas utilities. This program offers businesses a free energy audit, and pays 80% of the installed costs for the energy efficiency upgrades recommended in the audit. These upgrades cover lighting, HVAC equipment, refrigeration, motors, etc. and includes the costs of both materials and labor. The program pays the contractor directly, so the customer doesn’t have to lay out all of the money and wait for a rebate – the customer pays only their 20% share of the cost.
