October 1st, 2009 - Better, Smaller, Transparent Government

To take a survey on the upcoming NJ gubernatorial election, click “Survey” on the tool bar to the left! The New Jersey Restaurateurs’ Good Government Fund (NJR-GGF) was impressed with Barry Funt who is running for Assembly in District 27 and approved supporting his campaign. "The New Jersey Restaurant Good Government Fund is the political action committee of the New Jersey Restaurant Association dedicated to supporting pro-business, pro-restaurant industry candidates," commented Deborah Dowdell, president of the Trenton-based NJRA. The NJR-GGF is sponsoring the Gubernatorial debate on NJN TV network, airing October 1 and re-broadcasting on October 4. The theme of the sponsorship is: NJ’s 23,000 restaurants support smaller government, better government, and transparent government. Subsequently, Mr. Funt and a group of colleagues announced the Citizens for Assembly platform on the steps of the State House in Trenton. The group of 40 Assembly Candidates from across the State gathered to announce Citizens for Assembly, a united statewide campaign to return the legislature to regular citizens. The candidates signed the Common Sense Pledge, a 10 point platform that represents the statewide citizens’ movement. The press conference was led by Barry Funt, the organizer of Citizens for Assembly. During the announcement, Funt said, “If elected, the citizens candidates on these steps would constitute a majority in the State Assembly; providing the leadership we need to change New Jersey. Citizens for Assembly is an effort to remind New Jersey how important it is to elect legislators who represent regular citizens.” Funt added, “While most of the political focus is on the governor’s race, it is the legislature that has enacted the policies that are at the root of the problems we face.” Funt called on voters to “become comfortable with the idea of voting differently than you may have in the past. You should know that supporting this group of candidates is not moving from one group of insiders to another. An overwhelming majority of the people up here with me are running for office for the very first time.” For more information, visit www.citizensforassembly.com.
